What should I expect if we are being picked up at a hotel, Airbnb or VRBO?

The Oak Barrel Tour Co private bourbon tours have to leave on time.  We recommend that you are ready 15 – 30 minutes early prior to your scheduled departure time.  Your driver will remain in contact with you by phone call or text to give an estimated time of arrival as well as the pickup location.  Please remember that tours have to leave on time!

Are there any specific requirements during private bourbon tours?

You must be age 21 or older to legally participate in bourbon tasting.  We require a form of ID.  Customers under the age of 21 may tour distilleries but can not participate in bourbon tasting.  Dress is casual.

Do I have to drink during a bourbon tour?

Absolutely not!  Bourbon tours are experiences in history, culture and craft.  Many people enjoy learning about processes, personalities and importance of bourbon to the state and local economies.  You will be comfortably riding through beautiful country and enjoying some of the best scenery on route to some fantastic visitor experiences!

What can I expect at the  bourbon distilleries?

Many of the bourbon distillery tours have time outside so dress appropriately for the weather.  Since many of the tours are in working distilleries, closed toe shoes may be required.  You should expect friendly people at all of the distilleries and who are interested in making sure that you have a great time.

Our tour guides will go over some of the in’s and out’s to make you feel more comfortable during your tour experience!  Bourbon distilleries are quite popular during the busy season of April, May & June and then again in September & October.  Sometimes distillery tours sell out during these months and we will let you know if we have to reroute to another distillery.

What about lunch?

We build in a stop and the time to enjoy lunch at a restaurant that offers some of the unique flavors of the Kentucky region.  We can go over several different lunch options during the planning of a private tour.  A Kentucky themed lunch is included in the cost of your tour!

What is a Certified or Executive Bourbon Steward?

Your tour guide has special training from the Stave & Thief Society in bourbon studies that designates them as a Certified or Executive Bourbon Steward.  This training ensures that you are touring with a bourbon professional that is passionate about bourbon and its history!  Our Certified or Executive Bourbon Stewards share their experiences and knowledge to ensure you have a memorable bourbon experience!

Should I tip the tour guide or driver?

Gratuity is always appreciated by our tour guides & drivers.  If you believe that your tour guide or driver did an exceptional job then it is up to your discretion on how to show your appreciation!
